HDTV and HD projector, which one is good for games and movies? Help me decide Please!?

I have about $ 1200 to spend. I plan to buy an HDTV or HD projector for my Wii and PS3. Which is good for games and movies? Help me decide please. People who use projectors or HDTV, please leave some comments and why. Thank you very much.

As the others said, it really comes down to your needs. Here are some things to consider. - If you only intend to use this setup for games, or even for TV and / or movie? Projectors are great for movies and HDTV ... much more intense and satisfying than a flat panel display (I think). They will also provide great results for gaming (under certain conditions ... see below), so a projector can be overall a better choice if you imagine a double / triple use. - How big a room are you putting it in? Projectors can work in a small room, but this usually involves a small image (in which case the only real advantage is portability. See it last item below). - How far do you want from the screen? Viewing distance is best at about twice the width of the screen, both projectors and HD DISPLAY ... think slightly above this one (while considering the points above about multiple use) - What is the lighting like in space (bright and sunny or dark / light controlled)? Projectors can work in a reasonable bright room, but is best in a weak to dark spaces. Some HDTV work better in brighter conditions. - Do you intend to have a permanent setup or portability important? Is room for concern? If you want to pick up and move a projector is the way to go (you can project onto a blank white wall). Projectors also are smaller than a flat screen and much smaller than a projection HDTV. - Screen response time? Some technologies exhibit fast screen response times, while others are slower (read blurred fast action). This can be a great thing for action gaming. Overall, the LCD is more likely to obscure than DLP, but look at the specs ... anything under about 10 ms should be OK. Note this is a problem for both projectors and HDTV. - Additional equipment? A projector may work fine on a blank wall, but look their best on a screen (or specially painted wall ... can be done for around $ 50), consider whether you want to worry about a separate screen or be bound to a given fixed screen location. You can also have to consider speakers for surround sound (which begins to transfer more difficult), but this applies to either a projector or HDTV. Finally, a projector is not have a good condition (while HDTVs do). For comments that projectors do not provide as good a picture as HDTV ... garbage. For the price you propose You can buy a 720p HD projector, and a light-controlled room at a reasonable screen surface of the image will be great. Also, do not mount a projector that does not mean one installed in the ceiling, it can be as simple as putting it on a coffee table and a shelf at the back of the room (although you will be sure the projector's lens shift capability (Most LCD projectors do) to be sure of this. See the link and explore this a bit if you are not familiar with the problem). - Maintenance? Lamps slides in both Projection TVs and projectors (nominal life of approximately 3000 hours). They are too expensive ... typically $ 400. Plasma and LCD flat panels have a much longer lifetime (20-50000hrs). Now you have to decide what advantages and disadvantages are important to you, and you will be able to make a choice. I would suggest you try the demo according to equipment, you decide you for ... or get an agreement, you can trade, if you choose does not work for you to your satisfaction. Finally, see the link to a site that reviews and gives a lot of info on projectors and flat-screen HDTV. It's always good to ask advice ... but there is no substiute to make your own reading. Hope this helps.
